SAFARI 23rd February to the 28th February 2012
Having been on 2 safaris before within 2 years, I still looked forward to this safari like a little kid waiting to go to the show. Lesley too as she hadn’t been on one and didn’t know really what to expect. The driver had organised a special safari for us, as I told him I wanted something pretty amazing for Lesley. We were not disappointed!! Our first day we went to Tsavo East, bringing back many happy memories for me. Stayed at Voi Safari Lodge this time. Lovely lodge with 2 big waterholes where the animals come in to drink at night. The park was so dry this time compared to June last year after the rains. Lesley was sooooo excited to see her first elephants a distance away. I told her she would get to see them up close and personal and she did. We swam in the pool before our game drive in the arvo, and that arvo spotted many, many animals such as giraffes, zebras, elephants, baboons, monkeys, eagles, different African birds, gazelles, impalas, wart hogs, dik diks, water buffalo, jackals, to name a few.
Lesley was so excited, reminded me of our first time on safari. I still was excited once again. We had an early night as we had to head to Nakuru the next morning, which took us about 11 hours to drive there with the traffic (road to Nairobi carries all the trucks from the Port of Mombasa) through to Uganda and all over Kenya.
It felt familiar as we drove towards Tsavo East. Lesley was full of excitement and anticipation. It was an afternoon swim when we arrived and to take in the scenery after lunch and get ready for our afternoon drive. We were not dissapointed with what we saw, and got to go and see some lions just nearby our camp.
