We have been very busy over at Umoja HQ recently and can’t believe how fast this year is going. Lots of exciting things are happening and we are looking forward to our goal of opening our first children’s home in 2014.
Last weekend, the Umoja team sold raffle tickets at the East Bundaberg Rotary Club Book Sale. Not only did we score some sneaky reading bargains on our breaks, we also met some lovely local people who were keen to hear about our project. Thank you to everyone who supported our raffle and congratulations to our two prize winners Trudy S. and Dianne W.
We received the most wonderful surprise from an American Rotary Club last week. Cathy was very overwhelmed and grateful to accept a cheque for US$3000 from some very generous people on the other side of the world from Sheridan RC in Wyoming. This money will be used to buy supplies for our boundary fence in Kenya, which our volunteers are building in September.
There has also been a lot of interest in our Casino Royale Gala Dinner. We have some great prizes to give away on the night in our raffles and auctions, including a week’s accommodation at the gold coast and a QLD Maroon’s jersey signed by the entire 2013 State of Origin team.
If you are free on July 20 and are looking for a great night of food, fun games, and entertainment by the awesome Matthew Barker and Electric Banana, then why not join us at The Waves in Bundaberg? Tickets are still available, but are selling fast. Remember, if you purchase a table of 10, you qualify to be a bronze sponsor. See http://umojahome.com/kenya/casino-royale-gala-dinner-dance/ for more details.
Thank you to all our new and ongoing supporters. Together we achieve the extraordinary.
